Bike Michiana Coalition Introduces 21 Century Bike Safety Laws to Indiana Legislature January 26, 2009

Senator Joh broden of South Bend has introduced Senate Bill 553, which affects bicycles and traffic safety. It has been read and referred to the Committee on Homeland Security, Transportation & Veterans Affairs.

Ft. Wayne Wants Piece of $50 Million to Fund Transportation Infrastructure October 21 , 2008

The Fort Wayne area is calling on federal leaders to appropriate $50 million to make area trails and infrastructure projects more friendly for pedestrians and bicyclists. Fort Wayne/Allen County/New Haven and Indianapolis are the two Indiana communities, out of 42 nationwide, participarting in the Rails to Trails Conservancy's 2010 Campaign for Active Transportation. the plan calls for a $5 million, 10 percent, local match.

Westfield starts work on Monon ExtensionOctober 14 , 2008

Steve and Kristen Poynts have been waiting for the Monon Trail to reach their Westfield neighborhood for eight years. The couple live the Westfield Farms subdivision near where Carmel's monon Greenway ends at 14th Street, but they never use it because they find it difficult to get to with four small children, ages 7 years to 8 months. Now that Westfield has started extending the trail north, it will practically be in their backyard.

DNR Indiana Department of Natural Resources

Indiana Trails, Greenways, and Bikeways Plan; The Indiana Department of Natural Resources in co-operation with the Indiana Department of Transportation, the Governor's Council for Physical Fitness & Sports, The Indiana Department of Tourism and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation is producing this trails plan to guide the development and expansion of a statewide system of trails to be used for recreation and transportation throughout Indiana.

Johnson County - Fitness and safety are two of the benefits of a proposed bike trail from downtown to areas south of Indianapolis. The trail would link the Indianapolis Zoo to Johnson County and into Morgan County.

Trails improve health of citizens, economyMarch 10,2008

Fort Wayne has it all. Or at least most of it. We're got a low cost of living, beautiful neighborhoods, friendly people, a can-do attitude, and the list goes on. But somethings's missing. Instead of receiving accoldades for those traits in national media and surveys, Fort Wayne get a bad rap, attracting attention by its large waislines and low job growth as opposed to its charm.
