Receiving a $571,200 Federal Highway Administration grant boosts a Granger group's plan to build pedestrian and multi-use paths in the community.

Friends of Granger Paths is partnering with the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners on a project to build new sidewalks and a multi-use path linking two public schools to the community’s public library, said Jessica Clark, St. Joseph County engineer, via a news release.

The proposed route includes:

  • Sidewalks from Mary Frank Elementary School, 13111 Adams Road, and Northpoint Elementary School, 50800 Cherry Road, to the intersection of Cherry and Adams roads; and
  • Multi-use trail going west along Adams Road to Elm Road, where the path connects with an existing route to the Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library at 51446 Elm Road.

    Construction is anticipated for 2011.

Friends of Granger Paths is a nonprofit group working to connect the community through pedestrian paths.
