PROPOSED MAPPING (CLICK ON MAP TO ENLARGE)

As most of you know, Patrick Sawyer passed away on Monday morning.
There has been an enormous offer of support for his family from the
cycling and paddling communities. Many have asked what they can do to
help. At this point, there are two organized events. Included the
details below for each event. Please feel free to forward this message
to others that may want to participate.

Monday 9:30 a.m.

This is a memorial ride in honor of Patrick. This is a short and
somber ride. It will start at the Little Flower Church (54191 Ironwood
Rd) at 9:30. We will have a Police escort north on Ironwood to
Douglas, turn right on Douglas to SR 23, then right on SR 23 to
Ironwood, and right on Ironwood returning to the church. This ride is
meant to be slow in an attempt to show respect for our fallen friend.
The idea is to stay together and remember Patrick. Additionally, we
hope that passing motorists will realize the need to share the road
and the responsibility they have as drivers.

The county has placed to requirements on this ride:

  1. No one under that age of 18 can participate in this ride. We are
sorry about this requirement, as many families have expressed an
interest in doing something to help. However, there is a family ride
in development. Please be patient and look for more information on this
ride soon.

2. Helmets MUST be worn. No one will be allowed to participate in the
ride without a helmet. No exceptions will be made.

Tuesday 6:00 p.m.

Outpost Sports has graciously offered to turn their weekly Tuesday
night ride into the Patrick Sawyer Memorial Ride. The ride will begin
at 6 with a brief prayer. Donations are welcome at this time. This
ride is from North Point School in Granger. Our goal is to raise
$10,000 for the Sawyer children's trust fund (Benefit for Patrick Sawyer
at Key Bank). There are four different distances at this ride to
accommodate nearly any rider level. If you do not wish to ride but
would like to donate, many of the local bike shops are collecting
donations and Key Bank can accept donations. You can also come to the
school to drop off your donation between 5:30 and 6:00, prior to the
ride.

If you have any questions, contact Matt Mooney at (574) 315-8711.
